General Rules

We are stoked to put on this race to gather the wing foiling community and hope to do many more. To make this happen please read these rules carefully and abide by them or face disqualification. In general you are expected to conduct yourself in a sportmanlike manner, help others on the course if they are in trouble and consider safety first above everything else. Please wear the race jersey during the race, its looks great for photos!

Race Day Check In

All racers must check in on race morning from 7:30am to 9:00am to get their number and race jersey. The vinyl race number sticker must be applied to the right side of your board. You also must be marked on your arm or leg with the same number. There will be a pre-race briefing at 9:00am.

Race Course

Long Course

The course will be a water start outside the reef of Kahala Beach Park. The turnaround mark will be the Hawaii Kai outside channel marker ("Blinker Buoy"). You will make a left shoulder turn around that metal pole and head back to Kahala to finish inside the reef at the last concrete jetty piling. Navigating the reef coming into the finish line there are shallow areas. It is recommended you follow the route shown on the map below. A right shoulder turn on the large rectangular start buoy is recommended but not required. if you go around that buoy it will keep you out of the surf. But you are allowed to cut inside that buoy and ride the surf in. There will be another smaller buoy marking a shallow reef in front of the finish line. A left shoulder turn is recommended around that buoy to stay in deep water. But you may also cut that buoy and head to the finish line at your own risk.

Categories and Awards

There will be men's age divisions for 39 and under and 40 and over. Awards will be given to the top 5 men in each division and top 5 women overall in long course.  And top 3 men and women in short course.

Race Rules

Racers are expected to be at the water start area by 10:00am for Long Course which will be marked by a large rectangular orange buoy. Short Course racers are expected to be at the Hawaii Kai blinker buoy start area by 10:30am. We will utilize a sailboat racing start where racers can be moving at full speed crossing the start line precisely at the starting horn. There will be a 5 min warning with a long horn, then a short horn at 1 minute to go with a flag or arm raised by the starter. At the precise race start time there will be a final long horn with the starter flag or arm dropped. Racers must not cross the starting line prior to the final horn.

Once the gun goes off there are no restrictions for long course other than you must make a left shoulder turn at the outside most metal pole channel marker at Hawaii Kai ("Blinker Buoy"). For Short Course there are no restrictions to the finish line at Kahala. At Kahala you must cross the finish line buoys marked by 2 red flags at the outside most concrete jetty piling. If you pull out of the race please let race officials know by calling (808) 255-6255.

A leash is required for both your wing and board. Inflatable boards will not be allowed to be used to race. The course will close at 12:30pm. Any racer not finished by 12:30pm will be given a DNF.

Awards Ceremony

At 1:00 pm there will be an awards ceremony at Kahala Park with food being served.
